The new iPad 3 is set to be released in 3 to 4 months according to the DigiTimes, which would mean a late March/ early April. This comes after components and parts are starting to be delivered to the OEM contractors, whilst shipments of parts for the current generation iPad are to be slowed down. Here is what DigiTimes is reporting.
OEM production of iPad 2 will remain high at 14-15 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 but decline to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012, paving the way for the launch of the new iPads, the sources noted.
Meanwhile, Foxconn Electronics will begin to produce the next-generation iPads in January and to ramp up the production volume starting February, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report, which quoted Kevin Chang, an analyst of Citigroup Global Markets, as indicating.
The next generation iPad is, according to the article on macotakara, thought to be slightly thicker that the previous iPad, but the screen is thought to remain the same size of 9.7 inches with a 2048 x 1536 high resolution Retina display.
