The U.S. embassy in Mauritius has reported that one of it’s drones has crashed at the Seychelles International Airport in Mahe.
The remote controlled drone was not armed and no injuries were reported in the incident. The drone, a MQ-9, was on a routine patrol and is thought to have crashed due to mechanical failure.
This incident comes after another US drone was shot down when it passed over Iran air space on December 4th in the eastern part of the country, near Afghanistan.
The U.S. military has operated a small fleet of drones out of the Seychelles since 2009 to monitor Somali militant group al-Shabab and other groups liked to al-Qaida.
