In this tutorial I will show you how you can quickly and easily remove the adverts from your µtorrent client. This should take you less that a minute to do.
Start up your µtorrent client. The adverts in red are the ones that we will be removing. The one at the top is a sponsored advert.
In the Preferences dialogue window, click on Advanced in the left-hand pane once, to highlight it.
With Advanced selected, you should now see that there are quite a few filters showing in the main window. We wish to focus on the advertising ones. To filter these down type off in the filter box at the top of the µtorrent window. Don’t hit OK just yet though.
You should now see 2 filters that are set to enabled:
Select the first one of these filters and set it to False by clicking the False radio button below. You can also double-click the filter to toggle between False and Enabled. Do the same for the other filter so that both are now set to False.
For the effects to be made, go File>Exit. Note that if you simply hit the Red X to close the program, it will only minimise it to the Task Bar, so completely exit instead.
Now you should no longer see any adverts again. If they ever do reappear again then it may be that you have updated to a newer version and the filters have been reset, so just go back to them and do the same again. Please also bear in mind that revenue generated by people clicking on the adverts helps with the development of µtorrent, and although when advertising was first introduced to the client it sparked a lot of controversy with its users forcing BitTorrent inc. (parent company of µtorrent) to allow users to opt-out of seeing the adverts. Personally the ads never actually bothered me, but if you want them removed to get a cleaner interface then it’s good that you can.
