How To Add Emergency Contact Information To Your Android Devices Lock Screen

November 7, 2013 By thegift73 2 Comments

In this tutorial I will show you how you can add owner information to your mobile phones lock screen, so that either you or a trusted friend can be notified should the phone be found or you are injured. What contact information is up to you, but for the purposes of this tutorial I am adding some contact details should I lose my phone. If you are wanting to add information that will help you or other should you be involved in an accident then you may want to include things like:

  • Wife/husbands/family/doctors contact details
  • Any important medical advice, like allergies or what medication you may be taking
  • Your home address

For the purposes of this tutorial, I am using my Nexus 5 running stock KitKat 4.4, although the steps are the same for those running Jelly-Bean.

Firstly, head to your Settings area by swiping down from the top of the screen with two fingers and select Settings. Then scroll down to Security.

Nexus 5 Security

In the Security window, select Owner Info

Make sure that the box next to Show owner info on lock screen is checked. Now tap in the text area to start adding any emergency contact information that you wish to be added to your phones lock screen. Personally I just added my email address plus a trusted friends mobile number, but you may wish to add more.

Once you are finished, simply hit the back button to go back. Note that there is no Save button, so backing out will automatically save this for you.

Now when your phones lock screen appears you will always see the emergency contact information appear just below the date. Note that if you add more information than can be displayed on one line, the rest of the information will slowly scroll across the screen.

That’s it.
